In the Pemberton Meadows, the Ryan River moves through open farmland beneath Mount Currie. Hay fields, horses and working farms stretch across the valley, a landscape that has fed this region for generations.

This is where we’ll gather for the first Friends Of The Farmer, at Za Ropa Ranch. For one evening, the ranch becomes the setting. We’ll walk through the farm, meet the people behind the land, sit at a long table surrounded by fields and horses, and experience the valley through its food, people and landscape.

At the centre of the evening is Chef Javier Blanc, the Madrid-born chef behind Paella Guys and Casa Molina in Vancouver. A finalist in the World Paella Day Cup, Javier will share the story behind Spanish cuisine, the traditions that have shaped it, and the personal story behind his own cooking. Together with his team, he’ll create a four-course, family-style menu inspired by Spanish flavours, seasonal ingredients and the tradition of cooking over fire.

And, of course, the table needs something good to drink. We’re proud to partner with Château Water, Fort Berens Estate Winery, The Beer Farmers and Sansorium, bringing still and sparkling water, local wine, beer and non-alcoholic pairings to the evening.

Menu

The full four-course menu will be revealed at the ranch. We’ll be cooking with what’s in season and available from local and regional producers, allowing the menu to evolve with the land and the time of year. The evening begins with welcome canapés before moving into a family-style four-course dinner.

At checkout, you’ll be able to choose your main: seafood fideuà or chicken and rabbit paella, both traditional Spanish dishes, and between an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage pairing.

Please note that some dishes contain meat, seafood, dairy, gluten and nuts, and we’re unable to accommodate dietary restrictions or food allergies for this event.

Dress code

Come as you are, just dressed for the setting. Think natural textures, earthy tones and pieces that feel effortless — linen, denim, boots, dresses, tailoring, layers. Cream, white, beige, brown, olive, black, rust and soft blues all work beautifully against the landscape.

We’ll be outside in the Pemberton Meadows, with dessert served as the sun sets, so wear something you feel good in and bring a layer for later. The temperature will drop once the sun goes down..
